Rudin’s Gilbert Honored at Realcomm with Lifetime Achievement Award

Rudin Management Company executive vice president and chief operating officer John Gilbert received a Lifetime Achievement Award at last week’s Realcomm/IBcon conference in Las Vegas.
Throughout the 20 years Realcomm has been in existence, its goal has been to bring everyone interested in technology, automation and innovation that impacts commercial, corporate and institutional real estate together and increase the speed of adoption through accelerated collaboration. During this time, Realcomm has acknowledged visionary leaders with its “Digie” Awards. This year, in honor of Realcomm’s 20th anniversary, the show expanded that recognition with the Lifetime Achievement Awards.
To qualify, recipients have to have had a career of 20 or more years focused on real estate, technology or a combination of the two, demonstrated a clear vision of how technology would strategically impact the industry, have consistently shared their time and experience with the community, willing to take significant risks in the name of innovation and have made a definite, positive impact to the advancement of commercial and corporate industry.
Gilbert’s background more than qualified him to receive the honor. He has served as Rudin’s EVP and COO since 1993 and is also the chief technology officer of the Rudin Portfolio, which includes the New York Information Technology Center at 55 Broad Street. Before Gilbert joined Rudin, he was president of the Rent Stabilization Association, served as Mayor Edward Koch’s representative on the New York City Board of Estimate, Assistant Commissioner for the Housing Policy for the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development and was Chief Housing Aide to former Assembly Speaker Stanley Fink.
Currently, Gilbert is cooperating with WeWork on building out the Brooklyn Navy Yard, a project he’s been closely involved with.
Outside of New York, Gilbert was Vice Chair of the Washington, DC-based Task Force for Building Infrastructure and Security. He also is a frequent guest lecturer at universities and graduate schools.
“John has been instrumental in putting together technology platforms and technology strategies that have helped Rudin become a premiere building owner in New York and other areas,” Fifth Gen Media CEO and Connected Real Estate Magazine publisher Rich Berliner said. “We congratulate him for his award.”
