WeWork Looks to Expand its WeMrkt Concept Across The US and Abroad

Flexible office space provider WeWork recently opened is first WeMrkt in New York and now plans to open approximately 500 more in cities it operates in, both in the United States and internationally.
WeMarketWeMrkt is WeWork’s first premium market stand that is dedicated to its members. The stores feature member products that include healthy snacks, beverages, office supplies, “We” branded apparel and more.
“We first launched the WeMrkt at WeWork’s 205 Hudson location in New York City in June 2018,” a WeWork spokesperson told Connected Real Estate Magazine. “We currently have four WeMrkt locations in New York City with plans to expand in both the U.S. and internationally in the coming months in key cities in which WeWork operates.”
The WeMrkt concept came from the Honesty Market self-service snack stands WeWork opened in many of its co-working spaces. The company is now hosting regular “Pitch Nights” for WeWork companies in numerous cities to compete to have their products featured in the WeMrkt. So far, Pitch Nights have taken place in New York, San Francisco, Boston, London and Los Angeles with more to come. The initial Pitch Night in New York saw nearly 20 WeWork members present their products to a panel of judges who picked winners based on creativity and innovation, capability, impact and product.
WeWork selected 10 winners from the April Pitch Night, who saw their products featured in the WeMrkt during the inaugural June launch. Some of the winning companies included Icelandic Provisions, Misfit Juicery, RISE Brewing Co., Splendid Spoon, Honeydrop Lemonade and Super Coffee.
“This retail store is becoming another destination for our community to gather, to talk about the things they love, and be part of different maker’s stories,” Chief Brand Officer Julie Rice told Digiday, “In a world where retail is dying, the way we’re going to revive it by creating things that are made from the heart, with love [and] with the consideration of the people who want to use them.”
