Comba Telecom Announces Two New 700/800MHz Public Safety Communication BDAs

Introducing two new public safety BDAs to the Comba Telecom CriticalPoint™ family

(27 March 2017 – San Jose, CA) – Comba Telecom, Inc.(Subsidiary of Comba Telecom Systems Holdings Ltd.), a global leading wireless solutions provider, announces the expansion of its 700/800MHz CriticalPoint™ Public Safety Bi-directional Amplifier (BDA) product line to include a 48VDC powered model of its popular CriticalPoint Class A BDA, as well as a Class B BDA, available in AC and DC versions.
The new CriticalPoint DC powered BDA will feature the same industry leading features of the current AC version but allow it to be powered from a 48VDC power source. The DC product will continue to support either single 700MHz or 800MHz bands, or 700/800MHz dual bands, support up to 32 channels per band, and provides 2W power per band. Channelized AGC and Channelized Squelch are also supported, among other notable features. Many public safety codes and AHJ’s (Authority Having Jurisdiction) require that a public safety communications system work even in the event of a power failure for a specific period of time, typically 8, 12 or 24 hours. By offering a DC powered version of the CriticalPoint BDA, Comba now provides more flexibility for the system designer, based on the needs of the particular application.
“We are excited to add a DC powered version to our public safety BDA product line,” says Don Henry, Comba Telecom’s Public Safety Program Manager. “The possibility of utilizing a DC power source, combined with the extremely low (80W single band; 100W dual band) power requirement of the CriticalPoint BDA means the backup battery solution can be physically smaller and less costly to operate.” Mr. Henry continued to state.
The CriticalPoint Class B BDA, which will also be available in either AC or 48VDC versions, will be an option for those sites that allow or require Class B public safety communications. Typically Class B public safety communication amplifiers are lower in cost than Class A amplifiers. The main difference between the Class A vs. a Class B device is channel filtering with Class B devices is accomplished on a broadband or wideband basis. In fact, there are some jurisdictions that prefer Class B amplifiers for public safety communications, so Comba Telecom’s new offering will be welcomed by those jurisdictions.
“The addition of the Class B and DC public safety BDAs will allow Comba Telecom to penetrate and gain market share in the fast growing public safety communications space,” says Steven Cheng, Comba’s Public Safety Product Manager. “And we don’t intend to stop here – we have additional future product releases later this year for public safety that will solidify Comba Telecom as the public safety communications product manufacturer.” Cheng stated further.
